Bogdanoff Secures Two More Critical Endorsements

Key local leaders Mayor Susan Whelchel and Deputy Mayor Susan Haynie of Boca Raton rally for Bogdanoff

Today, Mayor Susan Whelchel and Deputy Mayor Susan Haynie, both of the City of Boca Raton, announced their support for Ellyn Bogdanoff for State Senate. Boca Raton lies in the geographical heart of District 25 and represents a large portion of the voters who will be determining the next leader to succeed Senate President Jeff Atwater. These endorsements, along with that of West Palm Beach City Commissioner Kimberly Mitchell, are an early indicator of strong district-wide support for Bogdanoff’s record of fiscal conservatism and experienced leadership.

“Ellyn has been an advocate for the less fortunate, a strong leader in Florida’s economic crisis, and a friend for our community,” said Mayor Susan Whelchel. “We can count on her to continue to put people above politics in the Florida Senate, and I encourage the people of Boca Raton to support her.”

Mayor Susan Whelchel: Susan Whelchel is currently the 33rd Mayor of the City of Boca Raton and was first elected to serve on the council in the spring of 1995. During this time she also served on the Palm Beach County School Board and as Chair of the Community Redevelopment Agency. Whelchel has earned the reputation as a relentless fighter for the taxpayer and her proven record of fiscal responsibility is why she enjoys such popularity as Mayor. Susan has a lifetime of involvement in the community and has called the City of Boca Raton home for over 30 years.

Deputy Mayor Susan Haynie: Susan Haynie was first elected to the Boca Raton City Council in the spring of 2000 and was just recently elected to her fourth term in 2008. Haynie has served on several State and Regional boards, including the Florida Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, and the Palm Beach League of Cities, where she served as President. She is a 35 year resident of the city of Boca Raton and also has a strong record of service in the community. She has served on several boards including the Zoning Board of Adjustment, the Planning and Zoning Board, Federation of Boca Raton Homeowners Association, and Boca Helping Hands.

“It’s an honor to have both Mayor Whelchel and Deputy Mayor Haynie on the team as we continue working to keep District 25 in Republican hands,” said Ellyn. “Their support will be a critical part of our campaign to rebuild Florida’s economy and re-vitalize our community.”
